Obituary

LuVerne Agnes Axtman, 84, Minot, formerly of the Martin area, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at her daughter's residence.

LuVerne was born August 16, 1928 at Harvey, North Dakota, the daughter of August and Edith (Duda) Muscha. She was raised on the family farm near Martin and graduated from Harvey High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Leonard Axtman on April 29th, 1946 and they made their home in Harvey, ND. In 1972, they moved to Minot, where she and Leonard became members of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Leonard died in 2000.

LuVerne was a warm and loving mother, raising seven kids while she and Leonard were stationed at various military bases in the US, Japan and Germany. She was a wonderful cook, as well as an accomplished seamstress, making much of the clothes for the kids while they were growing up. Later in life, that talent led to a career as a professional seamstress, working at various dress and fabric stores in the Minot area, including, Baders and the ClothHuas.

She had a wonderful sense of adventure. Once her kids were grown, she spent much of her time traveling the world with her sisters, visiting places like Spain, Singapore and Germany. When she wasn't traveling, she explored the world through rich books, with a passion for history and adventure stories. She also loved playing Scrabble with her family, and solitaire during quiet mornings.

She loved to play her harp, listen to music, and make her chokecherry wine. She had a lifelong love of gardening, and enjoyed the peace of her backyard surrounded by oak trees, lilacs and her flowerbeds.

Her loving family includes, children, Christine (Randy) Reichenberger, Timothy (Kaye) Axtman, Sioux Falls, SD, Jon Axtman (Emily), West Fargo, ND, Sylvia (Paul) Caron, Canon City, CO, Lucia (Robert) McClure, Carlisle, PA, Thena (John) Yarbrough, Sierra Vista, AZ, Amy Rioux (Mark), Edgewater, CO; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; Sisters Pearl Lukenbach, Dorothy Ozog; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

LuVerne was preceded in death by : her parents, her husband, Leonard in 2000, her sister Genevieve Otto, and brothers Clarence Muscha and Bernie Muscha.

Prayer service : Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 5:30pm in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation: At the family's request there will be no reviewal, however friends may sign the memorial register book on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity .
