Obituary

Lucille E. Nelson, 87, Minot, formerly of Grenora, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in a Minot Healthcare Center.

Lucille was born November 10, 1920 at Crosby, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Margaret (Manz) Herland. She was raised and educated at Crosby, graduating from Crosby High School in 1939.

During her younger years, she was employed at the ASCS office in Crosby. She was united in marriage to Olaf Nelson on June 28, 1946 at Alamo, ND. Following their marriage, they made their home on the Nelson Family farm near Grenora. They retired from farming in 1982 and a short time later moved to Minot. Olaf died March 6, 1988. Lucille continued to make her home in Minot, living a short time in Edgewood Vista and later at ManorCare Healthcare Center.

While living in the Grenora area, she was a member of Skabo and St. Olaf Lutheran Churches, where she was active with the circle groups and taught Sunday School classes, including the Bethel Bible series class. While living in Minot, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she shared her talent for making lefse for the Norsk Hostfest. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway-Bjarne Lodge at Williston. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling and visiting family.

Lucille is survived by her son: Mark Nelson of Denver, CO and sister: Doris Bronkar, Athens, GA.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband of forty-two years, Olaf, son: John, infant brother: Melvin, and brother-in-law: Clayton Bronkar.

Funeral services : Monday, September 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot;
Graveside service
: Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Skabo Lutheran Church Cemetery, Grenora, ND;
Visitation: Sunday from noon - 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Skabo Lutheran Cemetery Fund, Christ Lutheran Church, local Alzheimer's fund or organization of the donor's choice.
