Obituary

Louise Doris Grabow, 93, Minot and formerly of Surrey died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in a Minot nursing home.

Louise was born on August 25, 1920 on the family farm in Surrey Township of Ward County, near Surrey, ND, to Karl and Louise (Goetz) Elker. She was reared on the family farm and attended country school and Surrey school. Later in life, she was proud to have earned her G.E.D.

Louise married Lesley Grabow on September 7, 1937 at the family farm. They made their home in Idaho, California and Donnybrook before returning to Idaho. The family settled in Surrey in 1950 and Louise was employed by the Surrey Post Office and Minot Post Office. She was appointed the Postmaster of Surrey in June of 1974 having previously served as the Assistant Postmaster.

Lesley died on February 23, 1982. Following his death she continued as Postmaster until her retirement in January of 1986. She continued to reside in Surrey until moving to Brentmoor Assisted Living Facility in Minot in January, 2007. Louise most recently resided at ManorCare for the past four years.

Louise was a member of Our Redeemer's Church - Minot and a former member of Velva Nazarene Church - Velva and the Church of the Brethren - Surrey. Also, she was a member of the National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS).

She especially enjoyed gardening, yard work, crocheting and embroidery, and most of all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Louise's loving family includes her children: Geraldine "Gerry" (Keith) Burns of Surrey, Warren (Paula) Grabow of Merced, CA and Janice (Marshall) Weston of Aurora, CO; ten grandchildren: Gerry's children: Lynn (Becky) Burns; Bart Burns; Kelly (Michele) Burns; Warren's children: Kary (Cindy) Grabow; Julie (Jeff) Chambers; Wes (Angela) Grabow; Kristy (Kevin) Stark; Wade (Amy) Grabow; Janice's children: Chad (Monica) Weston; Brett (Erin) Weston; fourteen great- grandchildren: Lynn's children: Eric (Meggan) Burns and their children Chloe and Preston; Trista (Jason) Wood and their children, Joseph, Judah and Joanna; Naomi (Forrest) Macy and their son, Elijah; Lynn's two step-children: Carter and Olivia Gage; Bart's children: Zachary and Michaela Burns; Kelly's children: Brooke and Brady Burns; Kary's children: Levi, Becky, and Caleb Grabow; Julie's children: Jaclyn (Tim) Cederwall, Jeana, and Jessica Chambers; Wes's children: Owen and Oswin Grabow; Kristy's children: Tatum and Beckett Stark; Wade's children: Graham and Eden Louise Grabow; Chad's children: Courtney, Aileen, Dominique, and Monica Weston; Brett's children: Hannah, Isaiah, Cole and Cade, and Chloe Weston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law: Jean Grabow, sister: Esther Lapp and brothers: Walter, Reinhold, Leonard and Oswin Elker.

Celebration of the Life of Louise Grabow: Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Redeemer's Church - Minot.
Interment: Church of the Brethren Cemetery - Surrey.
Visitation: Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
