Loren Carlyle Quandt, 85, Minot, formerly of Makoti, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Loren was born October 2, 1930 in Makoti, North Dakota, the son of Carl and Emilie (Beyer) Quandt. He was raised on the farm and educated at Makoti Schools, graduating in 1948 from Makoti High School. He assisted with the operation of the farm and was drafted into the US Army in 1951, honorably serving his country during the Korean Conflict until 1953, when he was transferred into the Army Reserve Unit until 1960.

Loren was united in marriage to Janice Brecto on November 3, 1956 at Makoti. From this union, four children were born. They made their home in Makoti, where he was employed at People's Bank and Trust - Makoti Station. In addition, he sold insurance as an independent agent and did tax preparation work for individuals in the Makoti area. In 1991, he retired from the Makoti Station and began farming. He also enjoyed gardening, raising giant pumpkins, training miniature horses, and painting. They moved to Minot in 2011.

Loren was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Makoti. He was also a member of the Makoti Thresher's Association and American Legion for over 50 years. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He played and coached baseball in his younger years and was a Minnesota Twins fan for many years.

Loren's loving family includes, wife of 59 years, Janice; children, Karla (Carter) Tengesdal, Westhope, ND, Mardon (JoAnn) Quandt, Annandale, MN, Natalie (Rick) Potrament, Spirit Lake, IA; brother, LeRoy (Florence) Quandt, Ryder, ND; 9 grandchildren, Katina (Jason) Miller, Kyle (Katie) Tengesdal, Kara (Kurt Jr.) Heninger, Kirsti Tengesdal, Julianne Quandt, Emily Quandt, Carl Quandt, Rebecca Potrament and Nicole Potrament; 5 great grandchildren, Alora Eback, Kamryn Tengesdal, Kurt Heninger III, Penelope Heninger and Kensleigh Tengesdal; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Owen; brothers, Reuben and Milton, and a sister, Elvera.

Celebration of Life service: Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Trinity Nursing Home Chapel, Minot.
Interment: St Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Makoti later in the Spring of 2016.
Visitation: Friday, January 15th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
