Lois Marcell Rismoen, 97, Minot, formerly of the Roseglen area, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Lois was born June 29, 1914 on the family farm near Roseglen, ND, the daughter of Ole and Zella (Long) Lunden. She was raised and educated in Roseglen, prior to the family moving to Ryder where she graduated from Ryder High School in 1932. She attended Bemis Business College for two years and was employed at various Minot businesses in her younger years.
Lois was united in marriage to Paul Rismoen on September 28, 1938 in Minot where they made their home. She was employed with Ramstad Insurance Agency for a time. Paul entered the Navy as a flight instructor in 1942, so the family moved to Tennessee. Following World War II, they returned to Devils Lake for eight years. They lived in Thief River Falls, MN for a short time before returning to Minot in 1955. Along with raising their six children, Lois was employed as an enumerator for various companies in Minot and the surrounding area. She retired in 1985. Paul passed away on March 16, 1985.
Lois was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, where she served the church in a number of duties, including past president of the FLCW, Deaconess Board and Altar Guild. She was also a member of PEO Chapter G, Women's Symphony League, Bridge Club, Birthday Club and was a former member of the Minot Country Club. She also spent many hours volunteering at Trinity Hospital and the Norsk Hostfest. She enjoyed golfing, traveling and playing bridge.
Her loving family includes, children, Sally Yoakum, Los Angeles, CA, Greg (Carolyn) Rismoen, Kenosha, WI, Paula (Dan) Foley, Phoenix, AZ, Pama Rismoen, Minot and Peri (Jim) Goad, Sierra Vista, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Terry, Stacy, Tobi, Jennifer, Eric, Corey, Dirk, Tiffany, Paul, Lance and Evan; ten great-grandchildren, Paige, David, Sarah, Kafer, Kaden, Cianna, Colton, Carter, Zachary, Lunden and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband of forty-six years, Paul, son, Peter, grandson, Terry Yoakum, sisters, Alta Hanson and Irene Hallan , and brother, Elwin Lunden.
Funeral service: Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, December 9, 2011 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred.
