She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Moorhead State College. Lois was once married to Doyle Mullin. They made their home in Fridley, MN where she was employed as an elementary school teacher, primarily sixth grade, in the Anoka/Hennepin County School District for forty years. She was a beloved favorite teacher of many students, who would return to visit year after year. Her final position was at the University Avenue Elementary School in Blaine, MN.  She had moved to Coon Rapids, MN in 1994.

Lois was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Fridley Housing and Urban Development Urban Renewal Committee. She was a founding charter member of the Michael Servetus Unitarian Society Church in Fridley, MN. She was an accomplished singer and flute player and performed for many years in a jazz band "Class Act". She oftentimes gave back to her community by sharing her talent at elder care facilities in the Twin Cities area. Also, she was an accomplished crafts maker. Stamped cards were her specialty and during her early retirement years she taught card making for a retail paper products store.

Lois took great pride in the island cabin she owned near Sioux Narrows, Ontario on Lake of the Woods. She was legendary for being able to navigate her boat at night in the time before GPS. Always welcoming, she loved to entertain at her cabin, holding craft and music sessions for neighboring friends. An accomplished cake decorator, she made many cakes for special celebrations and weddings.
