Obituary

Lloyd G. Nygaard , 92, Columbus, ND died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in a Minot hospital.

Lloyd was born October 4, 1922, in Portal, ND to Louis and Lottie (Granrud) Nygaard. He grew up near Columbus, ND. Lloyd was once married to Lois Campbell, and this union was blessed with six children.

Lloyd spent his entire life in Burke County where he farmed, maintaining all his own equipment. He was an inventive, problem-solver who spent many hours tinkering in his garage. He really only knew one speed - fast. In his late 80s he re-sided his home, replaced windows, and re-shingled his garage. Lloyd was just plain tough, and living blind in a nursing home was not an option.

Lloyd\'s gritty exterior melted away near his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often took them fishing, checking traps, or he let them ride his lawn mower. What he loved most was just teasing, joking, talking, and telling them wild stories. His legacy will be his family, and he will be missed by all who shared the good times and his troubled later life.

Lloyd is survived by his children, Chris (Frank) Heitz, Dickinson, ND, Melanie (Ron) Earl, North Portal, Sask., Helen (Mike) Skalicky, Minot, ND, Donna (Ken) Carbonaro, Meridian, ID , and Steve (Julie Huffman) Nygaard, Forest Grove, OR, daughter-in-law, Debbie Walker; grandchildren, Caleb Nygaard (Candy), Ronald Nygaard, Dan (Stephanie) Heitz, Tom (Sarah) Heitz, Ronnie Earl Jr., Jenniffer (Geoff) Dyer, Kara Earl, Jon (Kasey) Skalicky, Josh Skalicky, Adam Skalicky, Milissa (Christian) Melle, Justin (fianc Michelle) Carbonaro, Kenny (Christina) Carbonaro, Jr., Pamela Carbonaro, Natasha Huffman (fianc Taylor), Gabrielle Nygaard, and Kadon Nygaard,; great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Penelope Nygaard, Catie and Robbie Heitz, Nico and Patterson Heitz, Joshua Earl, Maia and Jaxson Dyer, Devinne Martins, Chance Carbonaro, and Bryton Carbonaro; sisters, Lorain Taylor, Auburn, WA and MaryLou Hoff, Albuquerque, NM; brother, Floyd (Fay) Nygaard, Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; long-time companion, Lucille Moen; son, Michael Nygaard; great-grandson, Jacob Riedman; sisters, Florence Morreale and Florain Hagen; and brother, Lawrence Nygaard.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, which held a special place in his heart.

A family Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
