Lloyd John "Bud" Schimke, 83, Minot, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, in a Minot hospital.

Bud was born May 23, 1925, on the family farm near Sawyer, ND, to Gust and Louise (Steffan) Schimke. He was raised and attended school in the Sawyer area.

Bud was united in marriage to Florence Dietz October 1, 1944 in Cathay, ND. This union was blessed with a son, Dennis Michael Schimke who was born on July 6, 1945. As a family, they made their home in Minot where he owned and operated Modern Coin.

Following his retirement, Bud and Florence moved to McAllen, TX. He returned to Minot in August of 2004, to be nearer his family.

Bud was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Minot and Gideon's International. He enjoyed fishing and was always busy thinking creatively of inventions.

Surviving family includes his loving wife of 64 years, Florence; sister, Rose Carash of San Leandro, CA and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, son, Dennis on May 12, 1987; sister, Lavina and brothers, Norbert, Moody, Ivan, Larry and Jacob.

Funeral: Monday, January 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Crossroads Baptist Church, Minot
Interment will be in Minneapolis , MN
Visitation: Sunday, January 25, 2009, from noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Baptist Church, Minot or Gideon's International.
