Linez C. Folven , 91, #22 S. Main Street, Minot and formerly of Watford City, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, in a Minot Hospital.
Linez was born June 27, 1915, at Watford City, North Dakota, the son of Rasmus and Randine (Anderson) Folven. He was raised and educated at Watford City and graduated from High School there in 1933. During his younger years he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps at Watford City and Medora.
Linez entered into active duty service with the USAF on July 10, 1942, and served his country in Engalnd during World War II with the 91 Bombardment group. He was honorably discharged and returned to Watford City, where he was employed with O.K. Implement for several years, before moving to Dickinson and working for Mann's Automotive Supply. In 1957, he was transferred by the company to Minot, where he continued to work until retiring in 1980. Linez enjoyed making his annual trips to Laughlin, Nevada, during the winter months.
Linez was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, where he had served on the church council. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and Golden K Kiwanis, all of Minot. He had also been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years as well as the Minot Shrine Club and Kem Temple Shrine. He had volunteered at Trinity Hospital for over twenty years and was a member of the YMCA for over 30 years. He had served on the coffee committee for Norsk Hostfest for several years.
Linez is survived by: Sister, Ruth Houghton, Hamilton, MT; Several nieces and nephews including: Dennis Folven, Los Angeles, CA and Gary Folven, Hingham, MA, Randina Casey, Williston, ND, Shirley Mattson, Watford City, ND, Gayle Gibbons, Porterville, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Elidah, Myrtle and Lenora and brothers: Joe, Carl, Rudolph, Oscar, Edward and Elmer.
Funeral service
: Monday, September 18, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot;
Graveside service
: Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Cherry Hills Cemetery, Rural Watford City, ND;
Visitation:
Sunday from Noon - 5:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Family YMCA or Minot Shrine Association.
