Linda Garcia , 78, Minot, died Friday, January 26, 2024, in a Minot hospital.
Linda was born on January 11, 1946 in Denver, CO to Donald and Ida Mae (Ballard) Henderson, the middle child of her two sisters. She was raised and educated in Littleton, CO and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. Linda furthered her education at Colorado State College where she graduated in 1968 with a degree in education.
Linda began her career in education in Anchorage, Alaska in 1968. She met Ronald Garcia and they were married in 1969. Their first daughter, Kathleen, was born in 1969. Ronald received military orders, relocating the family to Madrid, Spain, where Linda taught, and their son, Ron, was born in 1974. In 1975, they moved to Minot where she taught at Happy Days Kiddie College. Once kindergarten was implemented in the public schools, Linda was hired as one of the first kindergarten teachers in the Minot Public School district. She taught and cared for students for 30 years, retiring in 2010.
Linda served on the board of directors for Head Start and was once president of the Minot Area Retired Teachers Association which she received the Apple Teacher of the Year Award from. She was a member of NDEA and the Sons of Norway.
Linda enjoyed supporting and cheering on her grandchildren in all of their sporting events and concerts. When she couldn't be there in person, she watched online. She celebrated all their accomplishments with joy and shared pictures and all the news in their lives with anyone she met. She loved traveling with her treasured "sisterhood" and when they weren't traveling, they could be found having coffee or celebrating birthdays. Linda was an avid reader and could often be found wrapped in a cozy blanket and reading the newest thriller or mystery.
