Lily Berday Burner, 99, Minot, formerly of Estevan, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, in a Minot nursing home.
Lily was born July 7, 1912 in North Portal, Saskatchewan, Canada, the third of five children to Ernest and Hulda (Addis) Berday. She was raised on the family farmstead and educated at the Notre Dame Academy in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.
Following graduation, Lily worked for the British Government in Detroit, Michigan during World War II. After the end of the war, she moved to Estevan, where she gained employment as Office Manager for International Harvester Equipment Dealer, a company owned by her brother, Abe Berday.
Lily was united in marriage to John Burner in 1951 in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot and she became a naturalized US citizen in 1958. Lily worked a number of years as a secretary for the North Dakota State Fair Association and was a great promoter and successful marketer of Shaklee Products for a number of years.
John passed away January 21, 1997.
She was a member of River of Life Church and the Minot State Fair Board. Lily possessed a creative personality that cultivated interest in cooking. She was also an accomplished seamstress.
Her loving family includes her step-children, Shirley Graham & Yvonne Potoma both of Estevan, Sask. and Gary Burner, Vancouver, B.C.; Fourteen step-grandchildren and seventeen step-great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Skagfjord, Sechelt, B.C. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lily was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, sister, Mabel Tucker and brothers, Edward and Abraham.
At the request of the family, no formal services will be held locally.
Interment: Souris Valley Memorial Gardens, Estevan, Sask. Canada
