Obituary

Lillian Pearl Strube, 100, Minot, formerly of Balfour, died peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2010 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Lillian was born February 5, 1910 at Balfour, ND, the daughter of Ed and Marguerite (Pugsley) Nehrenberg. She was raised and educated at Balfour and graduated from Balfour High School in 1928. She attended Valley City Teachers College and taught at schools in the Balfour area for more than seven years.

Lillian was united in marriage to Ernest Strube on June 12, 1935 at Balfour, where they made their home on a farm 5 miles NE of Balfour. In 1944, they moved into Balfour, where Ernest took over the operation of the Standard Oil bulk business. In addition to raising their children, Lillian was also employed as a cook at Pete's Caf, as a postal clerk at the Balfour Post Office, and worked as a substitute teacher and cook at the Balfour School.

Lillian and Ernest moved to Minot in 1984 to be near their children. Ernest died in 1992.Lillian moved to Edgewood Vista in 2004, where she made many friends and spent many enjoyable hours with her friend and next door neighbor, Dixie Knobel. Just before her 99th birthday in 2009, Lillian moved to the Trinity Homes, where she received excellent care from her caregivers.

Lillian was a member of First Baptist Church in Minot, where she was active with the XYZ Senior group.She was a former member of the Balfour Evangelical United Brethren Church until it closed, the Drake United Methodist Churchand Balfour Harmony Homemakers. She was active in Community plays, taught adult and youth Sunday school classes, was youth leader and was active in the Women's Missionary Fellowship group and sang for a number of events throughout the years.

Her loving family includes: children, Marlys (Dan) Orluck, Minot, Cheryl (Wade) Iverson, Minot, Darryl (Sharon) Strube, Minot and Delton (Janice) Strube, Minot; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Avis, son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Barbara Strube, great-granddaughter, Paige Beiswenger and sisters, Lavon Hooker, Violet Billey-Darden, and Beatrice Abrahamson.

Funeral service: Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in First Baptist Church, Minot;

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot;

Visitation: Sunday, August 22, 2010 from Noon-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

A family prayer service will be held on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Child Evangelism Fellowship, XYZ at First Baptist or the Balfour Cemetery.
