Obituary

Leroy H. Quandt, 92, Minot, formerly of Makoti, died Thursday, January 17, 2019, in his home.

Leroy was born October 15, 1926 in Makoti, ND to Carl and Emilie (Beyer) Quandt.  He was educated in Makoti, graduating from Makoti High School in 1944.  He continued his education at Wartburg College in Iowa, where he completed his degree in 1948.

As a young adult, Leroy spent time teaching mathematics in Douglas and also worked as a depth tester in the civil service for a couple of years prior to returning home to farm.

Leroy was united in marriage to Florence Dyke on November 23, 1958 in Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Plaza.  They lived on the family farm located 3 miles south of Makoti, where they maintained farming and ranching operation for the next 50 years.  They grew small grains and raised sheep for a number of years.

Leroy was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Makoti, serving in various capacities over the years.  Leroy was also active in his community with service on the Farmer's Union Board, Makoti School Board, Makoti Threshing Board, Good Samaritan Nursing Home board as well as many years of service as a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher.

Leroy and Florence supported his children faithfully in all their activities and sporting events and this love carried on to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was often found at auction sales looking for his next tractor to restore.  Hours and hours of research were put into his passion to see the product of his hard work and determination at the Makoti Threshing Show each year as they were driven in the parade in pristine condition.  LeRoy will be deeply missed by all who knew him as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend or neighbor.

Leroy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Florence Quandt, Minot; children, Jane Quandt, Athens, GA, Lane (Evelyn Keller) Quandt, Belgrade, MT, Shelley Quandt (Kim Brummond), Dickinson, ND and Darwin (Heather) Quandt, Makoti, ND; grandchildren, Kandice (Quinn) Hurtovenko, Kurtis Quandt, Ashleigh (Josh) Lilly and Kathryn McNicol; great-grandchildren, Kylie Quandt and Burklee Lilly; sister-in-law, Janice Quandt, Minot along with numerous nieces and nephews.
