LeRoy Herman Newman, 80, Minot, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 in a Minot Hospital.

LeRoy was born December 9, 1933 in Newman Township of Ward County, North Dakota, the son of Walter and Susie (Olson) Newman. He was raised on the family farm near Sawyer and educated at country schools near there. He completed his schooling at Sawyer and assisted his uncle's on their farms in that area. During his younger years, he also worked in the coal mines near Sawyer and Velva.

LeRoy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marlene Olson on March 28, 1954 in Minot. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. He was employed for a short time at the Big Sky Ranch near Granville, before beginning employment with Bridgeman Creamery in Minot in 1954. He worked for the company for forty-two years, where he worked various positions, retiring as a bulk truck driver. He earned employee of the month honors and served as Union Steward for many years.

LeRoy enjoyed spending time with his family who he loved so very much. He also enjoyed playing his Martin guitar, listening to all kinds of music, camping, fishing and reminiscing about old cars. He always had time to visit with his friends, tell a joke or two, and enjoy a cold beverage. LeRoy was a friend to all.

His loving family includes, wife of 60 years, Marlene, daughters, Kathryn (David) Cole, Minot; Maxine Newman (Harold Mellberg) of Minot; Renae (Paul) Rudolph, Minot; daughter in law, Cheryl Newman, Mosinee, Wisc; grandchildren, Heather Riehle, Travis Newman, Delwin Irwin, Jr., Justin Irwin, Ashleigh Newman, Zachary Rudolph, McKenzie Rudolph, Creighton Rudolph; great-grandchildren, Cole Irwin, Codey Irwin, Ashlyn Riehle, Parker Newman Anderson; sisters, Esther Haugen, Minot and Marilyn (Clarence) Melgaard, Bismarck, ND; aunts, Myrtle Wojahn, Velva, Mildred Newman, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, beloved son, Keith Newman; brother, Ernest (Bud) Newman; dog, Elvis.

Funeral service : Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation : Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
