Leonard Theodore Grabinger, 83, Minot and former owner of Grabinger Homes and Arrowhead Ace Hardware, died on Monday, August 19, 2013 in a Minot healthcare center.
Leonard was born on July 3, 1930 in Turtle Lake, ND to Sylvester and Edith (Borgen) Grabinger. He was reared and educated in Turtle Lake, graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1948 and attended the North Dakota State School of Science. He entered the U.S. Navy on December 27, 1950 and served with the SeaBees prior to his honorable discharge on October 12, 1954. Following his discharge he returned to Turtle Lake and was employed as an ironworker on construction projects throughout the US and in the area, including the Garrison Dam Tailrace.
Leonard married Florence Yesenko on December 31, 1956 in Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in Turtle Lake where they owned and operated the caf. The family settled in Minot in 1962 where Leonard was employed by Peterson Mobile Homes prior to owning and operating Grabinger Homes and Arrowhead Ace Hardware before his retirement. Florence died on March 20, 2010.
Leonard was a longtime member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot as well as the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Eagles Aerie and Knights of Columbus. He especially enjoyed time spent as a member of various car clubs especially the Studebaker Drivers Club and his shareholder status with the Green Bay Packers. Also, he enjoyed deer hunting in his younger years, gardening and reading the newspaper.
Leonard's loving family includes his children: Jill Neumann of Bismarck and Steven (Toni) Grabinger of Lake Park MN; daughter-in-law: MeLea Grabinger of Bismarck; grandchildren: Alexandra Neumann as well as Elise and Erin Grabinger; siblings: Shirley (Wes) Jenson of Minot, Russell (Janice) Grabinger of Bismarck, Scott (Mary Jill) Grabinger of Centennial CO and Brent (Marsha) Grabinger of Vancouver, WA; sisters-in-law: Lillian Yesenko of Brandon SD and Ellen (Harland) Morrison of Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Verna, wife, and son, John Grabinger.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
