Leonard Fettig , 80, Minot and formerly of Rolla died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 in a Minot hospital with his wife and minister at his side.
Leonard was born on February 5, 1937 in Selz, ND, to John and Lena (Wentz) Fettig. He was reared and attended school in Rugby. As a young adult, he was employed as a construction laborer.
Leonard married Shirley Danielson, on September 6, 1968, in Rolla, ND. They made their home in Rolla where he continued his career as a construction worker with the Minnesota Laborers Union #563. Leonard and Shirley moved to Minot in 1974 to be closer to his work which often included long commutes to and from the missile silos, power plants and pipelines in the Minot area and throughout the upper Great Plains. He was a very conscientious, hard-working and valued employee who was often one of the last to be "laid off" when a project was completed. Leonard was medically retired in 1997.
Leonard was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong member of the Minnesota Laborers Union #563. Leonard enjoyed his many vehicles he owned throughout the years and worked at keeping them looking brand new.
Leonard's loving family includes his wife, Shirley, the love of his life and life partner of 48 years; Sisters: Helen (Joe) Haman of Towner and Kathryn Carroll of Arlington TX; In-laws: Morris (Laurie) Danielson of Miles City MT, Larry (Florence) Danielson of Sulphur Springs TX, Myron (Diane) Danielson of Stephen MN, Doreen (Les) Dunlop of Mesa AZ, Lois Ryyth of Mesa AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lena Fettig, in-laws: Palmer and Vern Danielson; sister: Mary Fettig; brothers: Clem Fettig and Johnny (Loretta) Fettig; and sister-in-law: Joyce (Bernard) Hileman.
Celebration of the Life of Leonard Fettig: Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Fund at 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
