Leona Haga, 91, Velva, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in a Minot Hospital.
Leona was born May 16, 1916 on the family farm near Voltaire, North Dakota, the daughter of Christian and Gea (Sorenson) Roebuck. She was raised and educated near Voltaire and was baptized and confirmed at Hjerdahl Lutheran Church. She graduated from Bergen High School and received her beautician's training at Reishus School of Beauty in Minot.
Leona was united in marriage to Arnold "Ruben" Haga on June 3, 1941 at Wolf Point, Montana. They made their home in Velva throughout the years, where they raised their two children. Ruben died April 11, 1977. Leona had continued to make her home at Velva.
Leona was a longtime member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. She enjoyed being involved in family activities, hosting events and celebrations, and was well known for being a wonderful cook.
Her loving family includes : Daughter: Claudette Merck, and her husband, John of Velva; Son: Todd Haga, and his wife Deb, of Hazen; Grandchildren: Mark Merck and his wife, Sara and their daughter, Addyson, of West Fargo, Michael Merck of Hazen, Lindsey Haga of Minot and Darren Haga of Hazen; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Daniel Haga, along with three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service
: Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 1:30pm. in Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.
Interment
: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva
Visitation
: Friday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, with a Prayer Service recited Friday at 7:30 p.m.
