Leo James "Jim" Korgel, Jr., 70, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 in a Garrison Nursing Care Center.

Leo was born August 26, 1940 at Minot, North Dakota, the son of Leo and Jeanette (Kjos) Korgel.

He was raised and educated at Minot and graduated from Minot High School, where he was active in the FFA.

Leo owned and operated his own dairy farm for most of his adult life. He was united in marriage to Janice Beeter on November 9, 1976 at Minot. They have made their home on a farm north of Surrey, where they continued to operate the dairy farm throughout the years. Most recently, Leo and Janice lived in Surrey, where Leo had a huge vegetable and flower garden, and enjoyed building planters and birdhouses to give to his numerous friends. Leo also worked as an insurance adjustor, with the federal crop insurance program and with Blakely Crop Insurance Company.

Leo loved to fish, was an awesome pool player, and was an avid fan of the St.Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was a member of the Senior Citizens group, Surrey.

His loving family includes: wife of thirty-five years, Janice; children, Karen (Jay) Zimmerman, Minot, Brian Korgel, Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Cole, Kate and Matthew Zimmerman, sisters, Alice Johnson, Minot and Delores Schieve, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Sorenson.

Celebration of Life service : Monday, March 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Redeemer's Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.

Visitation: At the request of the family, there will be no reviewal, however friends and family are invited to sign the memorial register book on Sunday from Noon-5:00pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
