Larry Adams, 78, Minot and former longtime Minot Air Force Base Fire Chief, died on Friday, August 21, 2020 in a Minot hospital following a long battle with COPD. His loving family was at his side.
Lawrence Wayne "Larry" Adams was born on January 21, 1942 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. He was adopted as an infant by family members, Mark and Ella (LaFrance) Adams. He was raised and educated in Caribou, Maine and later attained his G.E.D. Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on May 14, 1959 and was stationed at Minot Air Force Base as a fireman for all four years of his tour of duty prior to his honorable discharge on May 13, 1963.
Larry married Caroline "Carol" Giesinger on August 26, 1961 in Rugby. They made their home in Minot. Following his discharge, he was employed by Boeing Aircraft as a fire inspector at various places around the country. From 1966-1971, was employed by Transit Mobile Homes Moving Company Inc. They returned to Minot in 1967, with Transit Mobile Homes and in 1971, returned to his dream career as a fireman at the Minot Air Force Base. He attained the rank of Fire Chief in 1977 and continued in that capacity until he retired in 1996. Following his retirement, he became employed by Wilbur Ellis as a seasonal truck driver from 1997-2014. Since 1996, Larry and Carol had spent the winter months in Arizona, Texas and Florida.
Larry was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church - Minot, Minot American Legion, Eagles Aerie and National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). He especially enjoyed traveling, deer hunting, camping and snowmobiling.
Larry's loving family includes his wife of 59 years: Carol; children: Katrina (Terry) Richter of Bismarck, Lori Tickerhoof (Mike Aschenbrenner) of Minot, and Mark (Dawn) Adams of Kingsport TN; grandchildren: Michael and Nick Tickerhoof (Nikki Jo), Jessica Nelson Sickler (Marcus), Aaron and Emily Nelson; step-grandchildren, Van Jones, Danielle (Shawn Brannan), Megan (Chris Miller) and Michael (Michelle) Richter; great grandchildren: Gavyn, Gabriel, and Harper and Gracelynn, Aubriana, and Camden Tickerhoof; step-great grandchildren, Michael and Suzzy Leier, Brayden Miller, Bailey and Jack Richter; in-laws: Jerry (Pat) Giesinger, Doug (Diana) Giesinger and 1 niece and 4 nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: Nick and Frances Giesinger and grandson: Nathan Tickerhoof.
Mass of Christian Burial
: Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church - Minot. For those unable to attend, a Livestream of the service may be accessed by using the link contained in the website obituary.
Interment with Military Honors
will be in the New Veterans Section of Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation
: Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.

are preferred to an organization of donor's choice.
