Lawrence Edgar "Larry" Omvig , 78, Lansford, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 in a Minot nursing home.

Lawrence was born on October 26, 1937 in Rolette, ND to Lester and Ruby (Paulson) Omvig. He was raised and educated in the Mylo and Rolette areas.

Following high school, he worked in the Mylo/Rolette area until moving to Oregon in the early 1960's. He returned to North Dakota, where he was employed by area grain elevators in Mylo, Bisbee, Tolna, Agate and Lansford as a grain technician.

Larry was united in marriage to Shirley Church on March 8, 1960 in Bisbee, ND. They made their home in various areas while Larry was working as a grain technician. They moved to Minot in 1984, where Larry became employed with Sun Prairie Grain Elevator as a lab technician until retiring in 1999.

Following his retirement, he kept his property in Lansford and lived in Minot.

Larry was a member of Trinity United Church, Lansford. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could often find him outdoors, whether it was attending to his garden, harvesting rocks for his rock collection or camping.

Larry's loving family includes his children: Kevin Omvig, Minot; Patricia Omvig (Wanda Heringer), Lansford; Deborah (Jeff) Johnston, Nerstrand, MN and Laurel (Tim) Blackowiak, Dundas, MN; grandchildren: Saterra Bruder, Santana Omvig ,Devin Omvig, Adam Omvig, Bobbi Tollin, Andy Johnston, Alex Johnston, Dana Johnston, Travis Fredrick and Jena Fredrick; great-grandchildren: Micheal and DaySun Skar, Colin, Emilee and Marley Johnston and James Reece; siblings: Lavina (Dale) Vetter, East Grand Forks, MN and Dennis (Betty) Omvig, Montrose, CO and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Thomas and son, Terrial Omvig.

Visitation: Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
