Lawrence William Neuhalfen, 86, Minot, died Monday, April 30, 2012 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Lawrence was born May 11, 1925 at Simcoe, North Dakota the son of Fred and Lottie (Skarison) Neuhalfen. He was raised and educated at Simcoe and moved with his family to Granville in the 1940's. During his younger years, he was employed at Armor's Creamery and Spain's Produce in Minot.
Lawrence was united in marriage to Eleanor Oster on August 15, 1948 at Balfour, North Dakota. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed with the City of Minot as a police officer. He later worked at City Bakery and Nash Finch, prior to his working at the Minot U.S. Post Office in 1955. He worked in that capacity as a postal carrier for more than 32 years, retiring in 1987. In addition to working to for the Postal service, he also operated Neuhalfen Painting service for many years.
Lawrence was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot, where he served as an usher, trustee and youth leader. He was also a member of the local Postal Carriers Union and former member of the Minot Elks, Eagles Aerie and Golden Kiwanis. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Eleanor; children, Kathy Osness, Minot, Cyndee Lee, Minot, Rodney Neuhalfen, Minot, Roland Neuhalfen, Minot; grandchildren, Erin (Greg) Gullickson, Mitchell (Janet) Kraft, April Judd & Ryan Neuhalfen; great-grandchildren, Julia & Chloe Kraft, McKayla Judd, Braydon & Shanna Neuhalfen & Devon Monington; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Schmeichel, Minot, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandchildren; Sawyer Gullickson & Maci Judd; son-in-law, Richard Osness; brothers, Joseph, Ernest, Warren and Glen Neuhalfen; infant brother, along with four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law .
Funeral service : Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment : Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Faith United Methodist Flood Relief Fund.
