LaVerne "Vernie" Rued, 94, Minot, died on Friday, March 22, 2019 in a Minot assisted living center memory unit with her family at her side.
LaVerne Hazel Mattfeld was born on September 23, 1924 on the family farm in Gorman Township of Ottertail County near Frazee, MN to August and Theresa (Schultz) Mattfeld. She was baptized on October 17, 1924 and confirmed on July 2, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perham, MN. Vernie was raised and educated in Perham, MN and graduated from Perham High School in 1942. As a young adult she was employed at Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, WA during World War II. Following this she returned to the Perham area.
LaVerne married Royden Rued on February 1, 1948 in Frazee, MN. They made their home in Minot where she assisted her husband, as a bookkeeper, with the operation of Rued Insurance. Roy died on May 15, 1992. LaVerne continued to reside in Minot, most recently at Edgewood Vista for the past six years.
LaVerne was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot and its Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). She especially enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
LaVerne's loving family includes her children: Doug (Barb) Rued of Minot and Sue Willman of Port Washington, WI; grandchildren: Jonathon (Danielle) Rued, Jacob Rued, Gus (Allysha) Willman and Alex Willman (Katie Burkhartzmeyer); great granddaughter: Nova Willman; siblings: James (Barbara) Mattfeld of Frazee, MN and Gerald Mattfeld of Perham, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, and siblings: Margaret Scheidecker and Irene Bonderenko.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church LWML.
