Obituary

With deep love and heavy hearts, we celebrate the life and legacy of Laverne Deloise Craig, lovingly known to many as "Bird", a nickname given to her in high school. Laverne, 68, of Minot, North Dakota—formerly of Greensboro, North Carolina—passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025.

Born on September 24, 1956, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Laverne lived a life grounded in grace, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those around her. She was the heart of her family and a true, lifelong friend to many. For over 30 years, she faithfully served as a secretary at Moses Cone Health Hospital, where her warm smile, steady presence, and gentle spirit brought peace to patients and coworkers alike. Helping others wasn't just her work—it was her calling.

Laverne's creativity and love for beauty shone through in her passion for interior decorating. She had a natural gift for turning spaces into warm, welcoming homes. Her favorite moments were often the simplest: laughing on the phone with her grandbabies, adding a loving touch to her surroundings, or relaxing to The Andy Griffith Show with smooth jazz playing softly in the background. She was calm, sweet, nurturing, and wise—with a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and deeply loved.

She leaves behind her greatest treasures: her best friend and son, Corri; her beloved daughter-in-law, Brittney; and her adored grandchildren, Channing and Chasen, who brought endless light and joy into her life.

Also carrying her memory forward are her devoted sisters, Annette Rembert-Moore, Mary Williamson and Jean Warren; nieces Lacretia, Raetarsha, Cherika, and great-nieces Leah, Kallie, Ka'Mya, Kylea, and Kauri; nephews Isaac, Raymond Jr., Breon, Brandon; and great-nephews Michael Jr., Sherod, Julian, Keith, and Kendrick. She is also remembered fondly by her cousins Michelle, Vickie, Michael, Kelvin, Keith, Todd, James, and many others.

Laverne's love reached far beyond her family. She maintained close bonds with dear friends and loved ones: Kenny N. Love Sr. (her son's father), Pam, Wendy, Faye Dunn, Allison, Lafeare, and Thomas. She was also deeply cherished by Robyn Brown, Robert Bundy, and Elaine Brown. Her connection to the proud James B. Dudley High School Class of 1974 remained strong throughout her life—one of friendship, loyalty, and love.

She was the treasured daughter of the late Willie Thomas Craig and Carolyn Kerlene Hamilton, and she carried their strength and spirit with her every day.

Though our hearts are broken, we are comforted in knowing that Laverne's love will never leave us. Her memory lives on in every kind word, every beautiful space, every shared laugh, and every act of compassion inspired by her example. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, grace, and unwavering love—a legacy we will hold in our hearts forever.
