IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laverne Leslie
Berg
November 30, 1945 – January 31, 2019
LaVerne L. Berg, 73, Logan, ND died Thursday, January 31, 2019 in a Minot hospital.
LaVerne was born November 30, 1945 in Minot, ND to Fred and Elsie (Edinger) Berg. He grew up and received his elementary education in Benedict and graduated from Max High School in 1963. He spent his college days between Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, ID, Pasadena Business College in California and locally at Minot Business College and Minot State University.
He was drafted into military service on September 8, 1967. He served his country honorably while stationed in Korea and was discharged from active duty on April 11, 1969.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Eleanor Johnson on December 19, 1969 in Velva, ND. They were blessed with two children and have called the Minot area home since marriage.
LaVerne began his career as an entrepreneur in 1971 with the purchase of the Southdale Texaco in 1971 in partnership with his brother-in-law, Larry Sundbakken. After the sale of the business he began his career in the manufactured home business with employment under Clayton Johnson at Western Housing Mart in 1974. LaVerne partnered with his brother Fred in 1976 to start Berg Homes later known as Countryside Homes Inc. He owned and operated the business for 28 years. LaVerne's final business venture was in partnership with his son Jeremy and nephew Keith Braunberger in the birth of Pure Honda on April 1, 2004. Although he stepped away from the daily operations a few years ago, LaVerne continued to offer his guidance and support through the growth of the business and its expansion and transformation to Pure Powersports of Minot.
LaVerne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. He loved the outdoors and all the offerings of nature. He was often found enjoying the prairie hunting game or spending time in his garden sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Traveling with his wife, spending time on the golf course, a creation from his woodshop or the raising of a four baby goats each year for the grandkids are treasured memories that we will forever cherish. Above all, he valued time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and will always be their biggest fan.
LaVerne is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Eleanor Berg, Logan, ND; children, Jeremy (Alecia) Berg and Sharella (Jay) Stein, both of Minot; grandchildren, Riley and Mason Berg and Kylie and Tanner Stein; siblings, Marvin (Lorraine) Berg, Ruso, ND, Marlene Reed, Tehachapi, CA, Shirley Braunberger, Minot, Fred (Carolyn) Berg, Gilbert, AZ, Calvin (Judy) Berg, Nampa, ID, Kathy (John) McDaniel Helseth, Minot and Daniel (Gail) Berg, Minot; brothers and sisters in law, Diane Johnson, Ruso, ND, DeLane Kritsky, Pocatello, ID, Loretta Martinsen, Garrison, ND, Marlys Sundbakken, Minot, ND, Wayne (Tenley) Johnson, Max, ND, Tim Schatz, Butte, ND and Glenn (Debbie) Johnson, Fargo, ND along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
