Laurel Irwin, 93, Mandan, formerly of Minot died Sunday, May 5, 2019 in her son's home.

Laurel was born October 27, 1925 in Newman Township of Ward County, North Dakota to John and Olga (Larson) Bunker. She attended country schools near her home and in Sawyer, ND. She graduated from Minot High School in 1943.

Following her graduation from high school, Laurel joined the workforce at Northwest Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She worked her way to supervisor and then group chief operator of the company spending thirty-three and a half years with the company. She retired in 2001. Then she worked part-time at Sax Maternity and Clothing.

Laurel was united in marriage to Bernie Irwin on September 26, 1948 in Minot. They built a home on Soo Street in 1950. Then purchased the Claude Irwin farm in 1964, and moved there in 1975. In 2015 they moved to Mandan and lived with their son.

Laurel was a member of First Assembly of God in Minot.

Laurel's loving family includes 2 children, Linda Reid, Canton, OH and Bruce (Wenjin) Irwin, Mandan, ND; 5 grandchildren, Andrea (Craig) Calkins, Levi (Katherine) Reid, Hannah (James) Browning, Lisa (Jay) McInerney and Philip (Suzanne) Irwin; 12 great-grandchildren include, Bailey, Samuel and Joel Calkins, Theo and Haley Reid, Eliza and Eleanor Browning, Ezra and Leo St. Marie, and Benmont, Corbin and Eisley Irwin; sister-in-law Ethel Irwin and Marcella Irwin with numerous nieces and nephews.

Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard, sister Dorothy Johnson and sister Barbara Bauer.

Funeral service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019 at First Assembly of God, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
