Larry E. Smith , 72, Minot, died Saturday, August 31, 2024 in a Minot hospital.
Larry was born on December 8, 1951 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of William and Viola (Tucker) Smith. He was raised and educated in Cincinnati where he graduated from High School.
Larry entered into active-duty service with the U.S. Air Force in 1972. He was united in marriage to Janet Diskin in 1974. They would make their home on various bases throughout the U.S. and abroad until moving to Minot Air Force Base in 1982. He retired from the Air Force in 1992. They were blessed with 3 children.
Larry would further his education at Minot State University, where he received a degree in Social Work. He then worked at Burdick Job Corps as a counselor for several years. The past 6 years, he and Janet would spend winters in Fulton, TX.
He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and hunting. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
His loving family includes wife of 50 years, Janet; children, Bill (Amy) Smith, Fargo, Tom (Sara) Smith, Minot and Cathy Jenson, Minot; grandchildren, Abby, Maddy, Alex, Ethan, Emily and Izzie; great grandson, Zeke; sister, Linda Schmidt.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Public Gathering & Visitation: Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with a public prayer service to follow at 3:15 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
