Larry Hamel , 79, Surrey and formerly of Minot and Mohall died on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in a Garrison nursing home.
Larry Everald Hamel was born on September 26, 1943 in Maxbass, ND to Edmund and Ellen (Luddington) Hamel. He was raised and educated in Maxbass and as a young adult was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad.
Larry married Judy Sommers on September 26, 1968 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Mohall.
They made their home in Upham and Mohall and he was employed by the ND State Highway Department. He retired early due to disability. Larry worked for a Mohall area farmer for several years. They moved to Minot in 1993, and then Surrey in 2007 where they lived for thirteen years. Judy died on November 19, 2009. Most recently, Larry had resided at Maple View and the Benedictine Living Center - Garrison because of challenges associated with Dementia.
Larry was raised in the Catholic Faith and was a member of the Eagles Aerie and Moose Lodge. He especially enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and pool, shaking dice and family time. Larry was an excellent dancer. He had a quick wit and could deliver a variety of one-line jokes that kept his family laughing.
Larry's loving family includes his sons: Brad Hamel and Donald (Jennifer) Hamel both of Minot; son-in-law: Derek Pollary of Baxter MN; grandchildren: Brandon, Emily and Taylor; great grandchildren: Jaime, Emma and Jensen; siblings: Louis (Theresa) Hamel of Lakota, Elaine Larson of Havre MT, Edmund "Junior" Hamel of Granville and Barb Streich of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter: Nichol Pollary and siblings: Eugene (Beverly), Kenny (Donna) and Betty (LeRoy) Teigen and brother-in-law: Marvin Streich.
Celebration of the Life of Larry Hamel: Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church – Minot. A livestream of the service will be available by accessing

Interment
will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens – Minot.
Visitation:
Friday, one hour prior to the start of the service in the church.
