Guttormson
January 28, 1950 – November 22, 2020
Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. January 22, 2021 at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND in Section 27.
Larry Guttormson, 70, Minot, died unexpectedly on November 22, 2020 in his home from an unknown cause.
Larry Clifford Guttormson was born on January 28, 1950 in Minot to Clarence and Lilas (Wasvick) Guttormson. The winter weather of 1950 was especially challenging so Clarence took his young wife to Minot to stay with his sister, Georgia, so she could be near the hospital for her delivery. Unfortunately, Clarence did not find out that he had a new son until a week after Larry's birth. Larry was raised on the family farm in Vang Township of Ward County and attended school at Vang #2 Township School and in Ryder. Larry graduated with eleven classmates from Ryder High School in 1968 and from Minot State University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Following graduation from MSU he was employed for three years at the Brooks Ranch in Hardin, MT.
When he returned to Minot he met a tall blonde who stole his heart. Larry married Marlene Barsness on April 26th, 1980 at First Assembly of God Church in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot. Their son Ryan was born on July 27th, 1987.
Larry was employed as a real estate agent for Prudential Properties; during which time he also owned and managed rental properties. He then was employed at Sykes and ended his working career at Northrup Grumman. Larry retired on August 29, 2020.
As a child Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Larry became a member of First Assembly of God. He served as a Sunday School Teacher and on several mission trips to Guatemala and Mexico. He enjoyed reading, movies (especially westerns and action); as well as travel and coffee time with his buddies. He was an excellent story teller and was known for his sense of humor and jokes. He always "saved the tables" at the park for the annual Guttormson Family Fourth of July Picnic.
Larry's loving family includes his wife of 40 years: Marlene; son: Ryan; siblings: Roger (Deb) Guttormson, David (Barb) Guttormson, Mark (Penny) Guttormson, Karen (Chris) Kelly and Kristi (Philip Bosey) Burgess; brother-in-law: Don (Marla) Barsness; nieces and nephews: Rob (Kyleen) Guttormson, Zeta Kilbride-Beckedahl, Scott Guttormson, Troy (Elaura) Guttormson, Brooke (David) Cobb, Kelsey (Ryan Kennedy) Guttormson, Nick Guttormson, Alexa (Adam) Wiire, Marissa Guttormson, Brianna (Ethan) Hanson, Jennifer (Casey) Johnson, Jess (T) Kvigne, Josh (Charlie) Kelly, Jerrica (Tanner) Bryantt, Cody Dembek, Kayla (Chris Gidley) Dembek, Justin (Mandy) Burgess, Chaz Burgess, Cari (Jim) Stiffel, Christa Barsness and Curt (Sadie) Barsness and numerous great nieces and nephews.
