Lando Vix, 91, Minot, died on Monday, April 30, 2018 in a Minot hospital with his family at his side.
Lando Dwight Vix was born on May 9, 1926 in Velva, ND to Albert and Bertha (Seibel) Vix. He was raised on the family farm in Newman Township of Ward County, educated at country schools near Sawyer and graduated from Minot High School in 1944.
Lando farmed for two years in Newman Township before he was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 6, 1946. He received his honorable discharge as a Technician 5th Grade in the 630th Engineers Light Equipment Company on March 21, 1947 at Camp Campbell, Kentucky and returned to North Dakota. He attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS and Minot State Teachers College for 3 years and received a degree in Business Education and Secondary Education in 1951.
Lando married June Lambert on December 16, 1949 in First Presbyterian Church - Minot. They made their home in Minot where he was employed by Dakota Drug for more than twenty years and helped establish its subsidiary Northland Sports and Supply in 1966. Later, he served as the business manager for the Mental Health Center for three years and as a salesman for NorthWestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. He owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store at the Arrowhead Shopping Center from 1976 until 1986.
Lando was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church Minot and a former member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder, trustee and choir member for 10 years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Sertoma Club and Golden K Kiwanis Club where he served as the program chairman and director of music. Lando enjoyed collecting records, traveling, reading, music photography and woodworking.
Lando's loving family includes his wife of 68 years June; children: Bruce (Sara) Vix of Golden, CO and Barbara Tassler of Champaign, IL; grandchildren: Andrew (Katie) Vix and Aaron (Tricia) Vix; great grandchildren: Reese, Riley and Carley and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lando was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dr. Vernon Vix and his wife Marjorie.
Celebration of the Life of Lando Vix:
Friday, May 4, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church- Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park-Minot.
Visitation:
Thursday from 3:00 p.m.to6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Vincent United Methodist Church - Minot.
