Kenneth Eugene Buen , 95, lifelong Berthold area resident died on Friday, September 12, 2008 in a Minot nursing home.

Ken was born on May 3, 1913 in Hatton, ND to Evan Knute "E.K." and Ina (Ness) Buen. He and his father moved from Hatton, ND and homesteaded in Berthold Township when he was nine years old. His mother and six of his siblings joined them in the spring of 1927. He was confirmed at the Lutheran church and attended school in Berthold. As a young adult, he assisted his father in the operation of the family farm and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in high school and on independent league teams. His love for sports was obvious as he would walk or run the 2.5 miles to Berthold for games and practices. He graduated from Berthold High School in 1931.

Ken married Daisy Hansen on October 24, 1940 in Berthold. They made their home on the family farm where they raised cattle, hogs, chickens and all types of small animals. Ken and Daisy sold eggs and cream to people in the Berthold area for many years. Ken loved farming and enjoyed watching the fields change from seeding to harvest. Ken and Daisy moved into Berthold in 1994 after Ken had lived on the original homestead for 72 years.

Ken was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Berthold and was a former member of the church council. He was also a member and former president of the Berthold Township Board.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Daisy of 68 years; sister: Ione Henrickson, Berthold; brother: Laurel (Joyce) Buen, Berthold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Beatrice; brother Calmer Buen and sisters Clara Sanstead; Avis Brudevig; Esther Allshouse; Bernice Higgins and Evelyn Hansen.

Funeral: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, ND.
Interment : Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND.
Visitation: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home.
Memorials are preferred to the organizations of the donors' choice.
