Obituary

Kendall Eugene Kohlman, 61, Minot and formerly of Granville, died Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at his apartment in Minot.

Kendall was born to Eugene and Evelyn (Erickson) Kohlman in Harvey, ND on June 4, 1957. Upon graduation from Magic City Campus in 1975, he pursued various jobs including working as a music store inventory tracker (where his love and knowledge of rock n\' roll grew even larger), a technician at the Minot Dental Lab, a grocery stocker and then a taxi driver, using his exceptional memory to find the quickest routes to a location, and using his quick wit to make friends in the process. Finally, he found his true vocation in helping others and became a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Kendall\'s daughter Charity was born on October 7, 1981, and from that moment on she became the most important thing in his life. He loved being a Dad, playing with his daughter and his nephews and nieces of similar ages. When his daughter died in 1998, some of his heart and happiness broke forever.

As a CNA in the 1980\'s, he briefly pursued a Nursing Degree at Minot State University, but being Kendall, decided he preferred the glamorous life of a CNA to the greatly increased pressures and slightly increased pay of a Registered Nurse. Never quite satisfied with one full time job, in the 1990\'s he worked at REM assisting the developmentally challenged, and throughout the 2000\'s he became a traveling CNA around the state, making friends and laughter wherever he went.

Kendall worked for over 30 years at Trinity Health, starting at the nursing home. There he often worked with those suffering from dementia, and was praised for his calm, understanding attitude. He worked at other Trinity sites into the 21st century, before finding his professional home and family at the Trinity Behavioral Health Unit.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, friends, and also his father, until the latter\'s death in 2014. He relished traveling, cooking, visiting his sister and his brothers and their families, dining, joking, and helping his many friends and relatives, no matter how near or far. He adored being an uncle and relished his time with his nieces and nephews, and his great-nieces and great-nephews. Kendall possessed a massive treasury of jokes, trivia, and crossword answers which would prevent any dullness through the longest road trip or shortest coffee break. He loved carpentry, drawing, tinkering, and buying the occasional broken car and restoring it to working order, before selling it for a profit and starting over again. At the cabin he bought in memory of his daughter, he worked tirelessly to make it his place of pride and of peace.

He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his three siblings, Kevin (Christine) Kohlman, Kristen (William, Jr.) Buono of Chula Vista, CA, and Kipton (Jean) Kohlman of Dickinson, ND, and many loving nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great- nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Evelyn (known to all as Irene), and his beloved daughter, Charity Mae.
