Obituary

Kathryn Nina "Kay" Baker, 93, 800 16th Ave. S.E. - Minot died on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in her home.

Kay was born on December 23, 1912, in Minneapolis, MN, to Edward and Anna (Hansen) McGrath. She was raised and educated in Minneapolis and in Minot where she graduated from Minot High School in 1931 and from Minot State University in 1935. As a young adult she was employed at KLPM radio in Minot where she was the host of "Auntie Kay's Program" which featured story telling and singing.

Kay married C.W. "Bill" Baker on January 28, 1940, in Minot. They made their home in Minot where she was employed at I. Keating Furniture World as a secretary prior to beginning employment with the Minot Public Schools. She served as a secretary for sixteen years at Minot High School and Erik Ramstad Middle School before she retired in 1975. Bill died on March 14, 1982. She had resided at Edgewood Vista since 1999.

Kay was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church where she was active in the music ministry of the church as a choir member and was a member of the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle and Evening Circle. She was a member of the Coterie Club, Compass Homemakers Club, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and Campus Players. She was a charter member of Sweet Adelines Choral Group and served as the accompanist for Maupin Dance Studio productions. She especially enjoyed singing and piano playing.

Kay's family includes: Children: Carol Baker of Bloomington, IL, Beatrice Goodwin of San Diego, CA, Robert (Patricia) Baker of Kilgore, TX, Marcus Baker of Sonoma, CA, and Edward Baker of Minot; Daughter in Law: Jane Kemper of Minot; Thirteen Grandchildren; Six Great Grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister: Bernice "Bonnie" Carlson

Funeral Service : Monday, October 9, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Vincent United Methodist Church or the Church Choir.
