Karn Stevick , 75, Minot, died July 22, 2018 in a Minot hospital.
Karn's journey began on June 28, 1943 in Little Falls, MN as the only daughter of four children of Pastor Leonard F. and Jenevieve (Lund) Klug. She grew up in Little Falls and Estes Park, Colorado, where she graduated from high school. She continued her education at Valley City State University in North Dakota completing her degree in elementary education in 1964. She worked as a student teacher in Fargo, ND.
Karn met Terry Stevick while in Minot in December of 1965. They were joined in marriage in a ceremony performed by her father on January 23, 1966 in Wheaton, MN. They would call Minot home for the rest of their lives. She held two positions with Minot Public Schools during her teaching career. First, at Jefferson Elementary and second as a first grade teacher for North Plains Elementary School on the Minot Air Force Base for over 30 years, retiring in 1997.
Retirement provided an opportunity for Karn to be active in her community. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she served for 50 years as a Sunday school leader and superintendent alongside her husband. She also served the shut-ins of the congregation with visits and phone calls over the years, keeping them involved in the Bethany Lutheran Church family. Karn loved to feed and be in service to people. Naturally, it led to her involvement in the Soup Kitchen hosted by All Saints Episcopal Church in partnership with Bethany Lutheran for many years. She valued the friendships she made while serving others for many years.
Nature provided a refuge for Karn. She enjoyed a connection to animals in their environment finding solace at their lake home on Lake Metigoshe. Reading was a passion that she fed daily, sometimes finishing a book the same day it started. She enjoyed tending to her potted flowers and was known for crafting her ribbon sandwiches for all family and friends. She will be missed by all who were blessed to share in her life.
Karn is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Terry Stevick, Minot; children, Sarah (Sean) Stevick-Lennon, Gurnee, IL and Erick (Jaye) Stevick, Pelham, AL; grandchildren, Brook and Hannah Lennon and Craig, Logan, Mya and Tyler Stevick; brother, Cordell (Carolyn) Klug, Burnsville, MN; sister-in-law, Margaret Klug, Minot; a number of nieces and nephews including Christina Dunn, Claudia Klug-Fisher, Matthew Klug and Andrea Lenertz along with in-law's Arlo (Joan) Stevick, Jack (Joann) Stevick, Sheryl Fenner, and Monica (John) D'Alessio; special friends, Elaine Hetland, Glenburn, ND and Joanna Haugen, Minot.
