Karen Ann Wahus, 64, Ryder, formerly of Des Lacs, ND, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 in a Minot Hospital.

Karen was born December 16, 1944 at Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Martin and Alice (Togstad) Goebel. She was raised and educated at Des Lacs and graduated from High School there in 1962.

She attended Minot State Teacher's College and was once married to Roger Wahus. They made their home in Minot until they moved to Des Lacs.

Karen had been employed throughout the years at Westland Oil Company and the Minot Fire Station, prior to her becoming the Assistant Postmaster in Des Lacs for several years. She then worked as a waitress at the Speedway Restaurant for several years, until ill health forced her to retire. She had resided at the Semmen Adult Foster Care home in Ryder, since 1995.

Karen was a member of a local bowling league and the Minot Eagles Aerie. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, along with doing word search puzzles and gardening. Karen also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Her loving family includes: children, Tony (Michele) Wahus, Minot, Monica (Jeff) Meyer, Minot, Marty (JoAnn) Wahus, Lisbon, ND; grandchildren, Summer, Montana (Devin), Matthew (Beth), Zachary, Weston, Laney & Shad ; great-grandson, Shane; brothers, Leon Goebel, Des Lacs & Duane (Mary Ann) Togstad, Phoenix, AZ, brother-in-law: George Gathman, Des Lacs; several nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pat Gathman.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00-7:00pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
