Karen Glee Martin, 82, Minot died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in the home of her daughter.
Karen was born on August 31, 1935 in Stevens Point, WI to Elmer and Frieda (Auchter) Mortensen. She was reared and educated in Stevens Point and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1953. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated in 1958 with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees in Library Science.
Karen married DeWayne Martin on September 7, 1957 at Stevens Point. They made their home in Madison where she was the Madison Public School Librarian for four years. The family moved to Minot in 1961 where she was employed as a librarian at Minot State College Campus Lab School for twenty years. Also, she was employed on a part-time basis at the MSU Library until she retired in 2000. DeWayne died on March 10, 2011. Karen continued to reside in Minot, most recently at The View.
Karen was a past president of the Friends of the Library Board of Directors and Minot State University Faculty Wives' organization. She was a member of the Souris Valley Library Association, Minot Symphony Orchestra, Beta Phi Mu, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. She especially enjoyed music, playing the violin as well as reading and camping.
Karen's loving family includes her children: Cindy (Jesse) Cook of Minot and Kathy (Al) D'Alessandro of Poughkeepsie NY; grandchildren: Alexa (Matthew) Seehaver, Callie and Colton Cook and Christina, Michael and Matthew D'Alessandro; great grandchildren: Theo and Jennifer; in-laws: Marilyn (Raymond) Gockowski of Duluth MN and Roland (Carole) Martin of Amherst Junction WI and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Celebration of the Life of Karen Martin: Monday, February 5, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park.
Visitation: Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Public Library or the Minot Symphony Orchestra.
