Julia Mae "Julie" Durward, 73, Minot and formerly of Stanley, Palermo, and Tolley, ND died, Saturday July 7, 2007 in a Minot Healthcare Center, after a battle with cancer.

Julia was born on July 1, 1934, in Powers Lake, ND to Harry and Carolyn (Walthers) Stock. She was raised and educated in Powers Lake and graduated from Palermo High School in 1955. Julia married John Durward on October 17, 1952 in Palermo. They made their home in Stanley, Palermo, Tolley, and Ray ND. She worked as a waitress, hotel desk clerk, and nurse's aid at the hospital, Bethel Home nursing home, and grocery clerk at the Piggly Wiggly, all in Stanley. She was a house parent at the Dakota Boys Ranch and lunch clerk at Tolley. Julia was also a nurse's aid for a time at the Mohall hospital. She was an Avon representative for eight years in Stanley prior to retiring in 1991. They moved to Minot in 1991.

Julia was a former member of the American Lutheran Church and its choir. She especially enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cats, and sightseeing especially in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Surviving family includes: Husband of 54 years: John Durward, Minot; Children: Scot Durward, Grand Forks, and Katie Lee, Minot; Grandchildren: Brittany, Sianna, and Kaden; sister: Rosemary Gustafson, Minot, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 10, 2007, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
