Joyce Gladys Volochenko, 82, Minot, formerly of the Butte area, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND.

Joyce was born June 19, 1928 on the family farm near Butte, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Tena (Honcharoff) Skorick. She was raised on the farm in Byersville Township of McLean County and attended country schools in that area, until graduating from Max High School in 1945. Joyce received her teaching certificate from Minot State College and taught at rural schools near Kief, Simcoe and the Minot area for eight years.

Joyce was united in marriage to Nick Volochenko on June 19, 1949 at Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she worked for the Souris Valley Humane Society for 8 years, and later worked for the Minot Vocational Workshop for another 8 years. Nick died December 23, 2007.

Joyce was a former member of Grace Baptist Church, Minot prior to its closing. She was currently a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and had been active in the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the Eagle's Auxiliary, all of Minot. She enjoyed doing yardwork, gardening and reading in her spare time.

Joyce's loving family includes, her brother, Delvin Skorick, Billings, MT, sister-in-law, Alice Skorick, Mesa, AZ; along with a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nick, sister, Delores Rygh and brothers, Leonard and Ed Skorick.

Funeral service : Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation : Thursday, May 12th from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Baptist Church, the Second Story, both Minot, or an organization of the donor's choice.
