Obituary

Joyce "Joy" Selberg, 81, lifelong Minot resident, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at her home in Edgewood Vista. Joy was born November 10, 1930 in Minot the daughter of Luther and Wanda (Boden) Otterness. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1948. She attended Minot State College for a year and was employed at the Ward County Courthouse, working as a secretary at the Veterans Service Office.Joy was united in marriage to Russell Selberg on October 7, 1951 in Minot. They raised four children and she was employed as a secretary at Minot State College, the Minot Air Force Base in the Civil Engineering department and later with Base Housing. In 1977, she obtained her Real Estate license and sold real estate for Feist Realty and Sun West Realty in Minot. She retired in 1982. Russell died November 29, 2004. Joy was a talented artist who painted for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed knitting and making her own clothes. Joy enjoyed decorating and took pride in her home and work. Joy and Russ purchased a lot and cabin at Rice Lake in the 1970's. She often commented that the "lake years" were good years and she maintained the friendships that were developed at the lake for many years. Joy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she did volunteer work in various capacities throughout the years. She held a lifetime membership in the PTA. She and Russ enjoyed traveling and had spent many winters in Arizona and Las Vegas.Her loving family includes, son, Jeffrey (Brenda) Selberg, Faribault, MN; granddaughter, Amanda (Jesse) Armbruster; great granddaughter, McKayla Armbruster; sister, Pat (Don) Brockel, Minneapolis, MN, and several nieces and nephews.Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Shelley, sons, James and Barry and sister, Sandy Fowler.

Celebration of Life service: Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Visitation: At the request of family there will be no reviewal, however friends may sign a memorial register (today) Wednesday, May 9th from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Trinity Hospice or an organization of the donor's choice.
