Obituary

Joyce Lynne Gabel, 67, Minot, formerly of White Shield, died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 in a Minot hospital.

Joyce was born on April 26, 1949 in Bismarck, ND to Ben and Margie (Sears) Slocum. She was reared and educated in Elbowoods and White Shield, ND and graduated from White Shield High School in 1967. She attended Minot State College and graduated from Bryant and Stratton College of Commerce in San Jose, CA in 1970.

Joyce was once married to Darrell Linton and Ernest Huntress and was employed in real estate sales and as a secretary. More recently she played keyboard and sang for the country band entitled "Night Wind". She was forced to retire due to ill health.

Joyce was united in marriage to Bruce Gabel on July 26, 1996 in Minot. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minot throughout the years.

Joyce's Indian name was "When the Corn Husks Turn Brown". Her hobbies and special interests included: music, crafts and scrapbooking.

Joyce's loving family includes: her husband, Bruce, Minot; children: Audrey (Wade) Williamson, Minot; Marcy Huntress, Minot; 4 grandchildren to include: Kailey, Rielee and Ashlee Williamson and Shaleen Griffey and nieces: Marie (Bob) Primeaux, Colorado and Taryl (Cameron) Gabel, New York.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Jim Slocum; nephew, James Scott Slocum, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Celebration of the Life service : Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Congregational Cemetery, White Shield, ND.
Visitation: Thursday, April 27th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
