Josephine "Josie" Chapin, 79, Minot and formerly of Lansford died on Saturday, February 15, 2014 in a Rugby hospital.
Francis Isabel Josephine Chapin was born on March 30, 1934 in Hitchin, England to James and Bridie Hayles. She was reared and educated in the County of Kerry, Ireland where she resided with her grandmother. As a young adult she was employed as a seamstress at a factory in England.
Josie married Wilber Chapin III on August 8, 1967 while he was stationed at an air force base in England. They made their home at air force bases in Turkey and Alaska prior to moving to Minot Air Force Base in 1976. They made their home in Lansford prior to moving to Minot in 1989. During her time in the Minot area, Josie was employed at the BX at Minot Air Force Base and at the Parker Johnson Hotel and Magic City Cleaners in Minot. She retired in 2002. Wilber died on April 24, 2009.
Josie was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church and formerly an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Lansford. She was active in the operation of the Newman Center at Minot State University and marriage counseling classes. She especially enjoyed shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.
Josie's loving family includes her children: Jason Chapin (Ruth Schweitzer), Ben Chapin and Angelique all of Minot and Donna Josephine Lawley of England; grandchildren: Rhiannon Kircher, Nathan, Madeline, Darby, Jake, Emma Jean, Lorelei, Ally Cea', Cameron and Jordan; great granddaughter: Sophie Kircher; sisters: Patricia Smithers and Maureen Alderson both of England and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister: Jean Spearing.
Liturgy of the Word Service: Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
