Obituary

Joseph John Eversmann, 75, Minot, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born December 29, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee the son of Nicholas and Verena (Halpin) Eversmann. He was raised and educated in Miami, Florida, where he graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1959. He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 1963. He entered into active duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He was united in marriage to Beverly Garrett on December 28, 1963 in Miami.

Throughout his 21 years of service, they were stationed at Ft. Walton, FL; Montgomery, AL; Dayton, OH; Norton AFB, CA; Alconbury RAF, England; Fairchild AFB, WA; March AFB, CA and Minot Air Force Base where he retired in 1983. He was stationed without his family in Vietnam, Thailand and Turkey.

After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to college to obtain his teaching certification from the State of North Dakota to work for Minot Public Schools. He worked at a cleaning service and also ran an ice cream truck one summer while completing his education. He was a substitute teacher for a while. Then he managed the Super 8 motel, worked at ING, the Select Inn, the Dakota Inn and most recently the Sierra Inn, where he was chosen for the Eagle Award from the Minot Chamber of Commerce for outstanding customer service. Sadly, he will not be able attend the Award Ceremony on July 11, 2017 but his family will proudly except it for him.

Joe loved his family dearly and would always do anything for them. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, watching football, playing chess and reading. He was a natural athlete and amazed his family with his ability to pick up a sport after decades of not playing and excel at it with style. What Joe found most enjoyable was bringing joy, laughter and a smile to, not only his family, but to anyone because he was a people person. He thrived on making people happy and joking with them (oftentimes treats were involved).

His loving family includes , beloved wife of 53 years, Beverly; twin daughters, Michelle (John) Eklund, Great Falls, MT; Marchelle Eversmann, Minot; son, Matthew (Keri) Eversmann, Minot, daughter, Johanna (Christopher) Ness, Minot; grandchildren, Eric & Jillionna Eklund; Destany Eversmann; brothers, Robert Eversmann of California, Edward Eversmann of Illinois and Thomas Eversmann of New York; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
