Obituary

John A. Haugen, 51, Minot died on Friday, November 23, 2012 in a Minot hospital.

John was born on March 17, 1961 in Minot to John and Carol (Getzlaff) Haugen. He was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at an early age and fought the afflictions of this disease his entire life. He was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1980. As a young adult he worked on a seismograph crew in several states during the oil boom of the 1980's. He returned to Minot where he was employed in the retail grocery business in various capacities eventually becoming produce manager. He retired due to ill health following a thirty year career in the grocery business.

John married Kimberly Flory on June 23, 2007 in Minot with his dad serving as his best man. He made it known to everyone that these were the happiest years of his life. He was a kind-hearted friend and beloved son, husband, brother, uncle and grandpa.

John was a skilled bowhunter in his youth. He had a lifelong love of dogs and for the Minnesota Vikings. He was an avid weightlifter for many years until a back injury forced him to stop. Also, he especially enjoyed NASCAR and collecting NASCAR memorabilia. He attended Bread of Life Lutheran Church.

John's loving family includes his wife Kim; stepson: Derek (Chelsea) Flory of Bismarck; granddaughter: Addyson of Bismarck; father; John Haugen of Minot; sisters: Carmen (Jim) Dolbeare of Willow City, Kim (Vaughn) Fiskum and Kelly (Tony) Voeller all of Minot as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his loving mother Carol.

Celebration of the Life of John Haugen : Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Luncheon : Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Bistro at Edgewood Vista.
Interment arrangements are pending.
Visitation : Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Camp Sioux, Diabetes Youth Camp C/O of the family.
