John F. Burckhard , 74, Minot, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 in his home.

John was born September 2, 1950, in Minot, ND, the fifth child of twelve to Michael and Mary (Jundt) Burckhard. He grew up in Minot and completed his education at Minot High School, graduating in 1969.

John enlisted into the US Marine Corps on August 15, 1969. He served honorably and was discharged on July 2, 1971. He returned to Minot and continued his secondary education at Minot State University. After 6 years of studies, John earned two Bachelor's Degrees in Sociology and Psychology.

John worked as a counselor at Bishop Ryan High School for three years until moving to Seattle, WA in 1980. He moved to Boise, Idaho a decade later, where he found his niche. He was instrumental in co-founding a disabilities agency named Community Partnerships on August 11, 1995. The agency focused on supporting families of individuals with disabilities, creating opportunities for them, and providing resources to that end.

Through his work, John met the love of his life, Lisa Jo Johnson.

They married October 3, 2002 in Boise, ID. John stepped in as a father to Lisa's two sons, and together they had three more children. They then moved the family to Minot in 2005. John worked for 10 years at Brooklyn Flats as a manager and retired in the summer of 2017.

John was a member of Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. John enjoyed breakfast with his brother Jim on Saturdays, and coffee with his brother David on many weekdays.  He possessed a giant personality and was certainly a people magnet. He had a cunning wit and the most contagious laugh that were often on display while enjoying deck time with family. John enjoyed music and was a lifelong Bob Dylan fan. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his ability to draw people in and entertain a crowd, his overflowing generosity, and his insistence on being to church on time.

John's surviving family includes his loving wife of 22 years, Lisa, Minot; children: Jasahd (Larissa) Stewart, Shaleb Stewart, Lauren Burckhard, Reagan (Tiodor) Grujovic, Luke Burckhard, all of Minot; grandchildren Maliyah and Cosmas Stewart and Javani Grujovic; siblings Mary Ann Hanson, Ramsey, MN, David Burckhard, Minot, Michael (Phyllis) Burckhard, Minot, Beverly (Randy) Thom, Minot, James (Kim) Burckhard, Minot, Mark Burckhard, Joan (Charles) Massey, Minot and Janice (Ronald) Burckhard, Minot; sister-in-law Lynn Burckhard, Renton, WA along with numerous nieces and nephews.
