Joanne Marguerite Schonauer, 81, Velva and formerly of Hampden died on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in her home with her family at her side.

Joanne was born on December 14, 1933 in Morris, MN to Albert and Edith (Fangmeier) Grotjohn. She was reared and educated in Morris and graduated from Morris High School in 1951.

Joanne married Gordon Schonauer on May 9, 1952 in Morris, MN. They made their home in Morris prior to moving to Hampden in 1963 and to Velva in 1972. Joanne was employed as the bookkeeper at both of the local grain elevators and Gordon managed those elevators.

Gordon died on January 21, 2007. Joanne had continued to reside in Velva until the time of her death.

Joanne was a former member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church - Velva and the Velva American Legion Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening, trips to the casino and bingo. Her lucky number was 44.

Joanne's loving family includes her children: Greg (Kris) Schonauer of Fergus Falls MN, Scott (Janie) Schonauer of Garrison, Bret (Kathleen) Schonauer of Velva and Kim Schonauer of Great Falls MT; grandchildren: Tom Schonauer, Katelyn (Michael) Bolz, Amber (Jesse) Carter, Cara Schonauer, Amber (Luke) Shattuck, T.J. Dodson, Jennifer (Rick) Napora, Noelle (Kevin) Hall, Holly (Barrett) Vaughn; great grandchildren: Brittany, Dawn, Josh, Shaelyn, Noah, Makaylah, Coehn, Jaxson, Hoyt, Croix, Monroe, Tripp, Jace, Alexys and Jordyn; siblings: Paul (Elaine) Grotjohn of Morris MN, Richard Grotjohn of Jackson MN, Judy (Jerry) Washek of Battle Lake MN; sisters-in-law: Mary Grotjohn of Baxter MN, Carol Grotjohn of Breckenridge MN, Glen Kelly of Libby MT and Delores (Winston) Johnson of Hampden and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Irene Riedner and brothers: Miles, Robert and Earl Grotjohn.

Celebration of the Life of Joanne Schonauer: Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Home.

Graveside Service: Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Storlie Cemetery rural Hampden.

Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
