JoAnn Hauf, 79, Max died on Monday, June 21, 2021 in a Garrison nursing home.

JoAnn Marilyn was born on May 5, 1942 in Minot to Edward and Olga (Klimpel) Busch.  She was raised on a farm southwest of Sawyer, baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sawyer, attended school in Sawyer and graduated from Sawyer High School in 1960.  As a teenager she assisted her family with the operation of their dairy farm and was employed at Co-op Creamery and at various restaurants.

JoAnn married Donald Hauf of Max on April 16, 1961 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sawyer.  Shortly after they married, they purchased the family farm southeast of Max where they raised small grains, and operated a dairy farm.  After 35 years they moved on from milk cows to range cattle eventually having two of their sons join them in farming during the 1990's. JoAnn continued to be an active part on the farm and also worked outside of the home as a caregiver and other self employment. Later in life she and Donald had enjoyed traveling, seeing friends and family from coast to coast and spending the winter months in Arizona.

JoAnn was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church – Max where she was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, member of the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) and cared for and made the church banners.  JoAnn was a leader for the Boys Country Lads 4-H Club where she specialized in teaching grooming, training and showing cattle at the fair and preparing grain sheaves and gardening.  Also, she was a member of the Max Jaycees where she served in many positions throughout her years.  She especially enjoyed planting and caring for her flower gardens and caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, camping with family and friends at area lakes and watching NASCAR races, Twins baseball games and horses.

JoAnn's loving family includes her husband of 60 years: Donald;  children:  Troy (Betty) Hauf of Max, Kurt (Lydia) Hauf of Bismarck and Bryce Hauf of Max;  grandchildren:  Ashley Hauf, Jesse Hauf, Lacey (Justin) Crum, Tyler (April) Hauf, Taylor Hauf, Brytin Hauf, Nevaeh Hauf, Bailey (Landon) Wutzke, Reece (Shauna) Hauf, Emma Vannett and Gavin Vannett; great grandchildren:  Hailey, Chloe and Jaxon Crum; Tyeson and Avrianna Hauf; and Autumn Hauf and Beauden Carr; brothers and sisters:  Leo Busch, Connie Swensrud, Diann Busch, Darlene (Kenneth) Hauf and Sandy (Wayne) Billings and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
