Joan Scott, 86, Minot, formerly of the Alsen/Starkweather, ND area, died Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in a Minot nursing home.

Joan was born January 23, 1933 in Alsen, ND to Frank and Louise (Lowen) Pankratz. She spent her childhood in Alsen and completed her high school education in Floodwood, MN, graduating with the class of 1951.

Joan returned to Alsen after high school and earned a living as a waitress at the local café in Langdon. She also worked as a seasonal cook during harvest for local farming families around the area.

Joan was joined in marriage to Walter Scott on October 2, 1953 at the Swiss Mennonite Church in Alsen. They called the Scott homestead located near Starkweather their home for the next sixty growing seasons. They were blessed with five children, Randy, Darreld, Kelby, Janet and Kevin.

She was a member of the Swiss Mennonite Church and a member of the Starkweather Homemaker's Club for many years. They moved from the farm to Burlington, ND in 2012 and she became a resident of Trinity Homes in 2013. Walter passed away May 16, 2015.

Joan blessed her family with the God-given talents of her hands. Playing piano, sewing and quilting benefited many over the years. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and playing games with family and friends. Joan will be missed deeply by all who shared in her life.

Joan is survived by her children Randy (Norma) Scott, Woodland Park, CO, Darreld (Brenda) Scott, Burlington, ND, Janet (Dan) Lindeman, Cleveland, TN and Kevin (Caroline) Scott, Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; sisters Melva (Bill) Putnam, Minot, ND and Karen (Elmon) Larson, Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Linda Pankratz, Minot, ND and Arlene McDougall, Everett, WA along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son Kelby, granddaughter Mary Scott and brother Orlin Pankratz.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Swiss Mennonite Church, Alsen, ND
Interment: Alsen Cemetery, Alsen, ND
Visitation: Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
