Joan Furness, 87, Minot, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, in a Minot nursing home.

Joan was born November 5, 1928, in Crosby, North Dakota to Homer and Alvilda (Tweten) Wilson. She was raised and educated in the Noonan, ND area, graduating with the Noonan High School Class of 1946. Following high school, Joan worked in Crosby at the local bank.

Joan was united in marriage to Harvey Furness October 17, 1947, in Noonan. They moved to Minot in 1948, where she would spend the rest of her life.

She devoted her life to family and will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Harvey died October 7, 1997.

Joan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church serving in a church circle during her active years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but most of all enjoyed being a 'grandma.' She will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.

Her surviving family includes sons, Bruce (Delores) Furness, Eagan, MN, Robert (Carol) Furness, Marysville, WA, Greg (Colette) Furness, Andover, MN and Don (Nancy) Furness, Edmonds, WA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; brother, Keith (Becky) Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey, sisters, Mavis Roloff and Ardith Simonson.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation: Friday, September 9, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
