Jerome A. 'Jerry' Fjeld , 84, joined our Lord in Heaven on January 12, 2023.

He was born in Douglas on July 13, 1938 to Ole and Hallie (Haugom) Fjeld and enlisted in the Navy when he was seventeen.  While in the Navy, he served six tours in Vietnam and served on ten ships receiving many awards and accolades including two Navy Achievement Medals and being named Navy Recruiter of the Year.   He retired from the Navy after twenty-one years of service.  He was an extremely patriotic veteran and very proud of his Navy service and continued to encourage young men and women to serve our country.  He also retired from civil service with the Air National Guard.

While stationed in Boston, MA, Jerome met his wife, Shelia Casey, on a blind date. The two were married in San Diego, CA where they lived for a short time before moving to Minot, ND. Jerry and Shelia raised their two children, Jerome and Denise, in Minot where they were active and supportive parents during their children's time at Little Flower, Ramstad, and Minot High. Becoming a grandpa was a highlight for Jerome and he was a proud and loving grandpa to six.

After his retirement, he focused on spending time with his friends and family and serving in numerous veteran organizations.  Through his years of retirement, he was an active member of several civic and veterans' organizations including the AMVETS, DAV, American Legion, Navy League, Fleet Reserve Association, VFW, International War Veterans Alliance, Vietnam Veterans of America, Sad Sacks, National Order of the Trench Rats, Moose Lodge, and Eagles clubs.  He was very proud to be named Amvet of the Year and recipient of the Silver Helmet Award in recognition of his service to veterans across the country.

Jerome's family is grateful for the Benedictine Living Center's compassionate care.

Jerome was preceded in death by his infant daughter Mary Catherine Fjeld, his parents and sister, Mary Peterson.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years Julia "Sheila" Fjeld; son, Jerome O. (Clara) Fjeld, Houston, TX; daughter Julia Denise (Lance) Tebay, Virginia Beach VA; grandchildren Jerome Reagan Fjeld, Olivia Fjeld, Lance Tebay, Evan Tebay, Nathan Jerome Tebay and Jacob Tebay; siblings Donna Backen, Howard (Barb) Fjeld , Obert (Diane) Fjeld and Harriet (Rick) Crowder along with numerous nieces and nephews.
