Jerome 'Joe' Schmaltz , 66, Minot, died Saturday, February 8, 2020 in a Minot hospital in the care of his family.

Jerome Edward Schmaltz was born August 7, 1953 in Minot, ND, the son of Edward and Norma (Holte) Schmaltz. He was raised and educated in Bergen, ND and graduated from Velva High School in 1971.

Joe was once married to Darlene Prellwitz. They made their home east of Voltaire, ND. He was employed as a truck driver for various firms based in North Dakota for many years until retiring in 2010 due to a disability.

Joe was of the Moose Lodge of Minot and the Velva Saddle Club.

Joe enjoyed rodeos, gardening, traveling, hunting, fishing and racing chuck wagons.

Joe's loving family includes his children, Nichole (Jason) Selzler, Mandan, ND, Danielle (Mike) Tyler, Hawaii AFB, Emily (Wade Marier) Kizima, Casselton, ND and Jessica (Josh) Hoaglund, Moorhead, MN; 13 grandchildren; father, Edward Schmaltz, Voltaire, ND; siblings, Debbie (Norman) Engel, Velva, ND, Richard (Marian) Schmaltz, Minot, ND, Cory Schmaltz, Velva, ND, Roger (Emily) Schmaltz, Voltaire, ND and Greg Schmaltz, Sawyer, ND along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Schmaltz.

Per Joe's wishes, no formal services will be held, but friends and family are invited to sign a memorial register book or leave a card at the Thomas Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm.
A Memorial service will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
