Obituary

Jennifer Ross Janes Lowe, Minot, passed away around 9:00 a.m. at her home on Christmas Eve, 2007. She was born to Fred Laughlin Janes and Barbara (Davis) Janes of Avon, IL on the 22nd of October, 1952.

She was educated at Iowa State University, graduating in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Services/Family Services and Horticulture. Jennifer did her social work practicum and worked in Illinois. She married Philip Matson Lowe on the 24th of November 1973, moving with him to settle in Minot, and take over his family's business.

After the birth of her son, she attended a floral design school in Denver, CO. She opened and managed the first of three floral shops. Jennifer helped expand Lowe's Gardens into Lowe's Floral and Garden Center. At the time of her death, Jennifer was President and CFO of Lowe's, Inc.

She was also on the founding board of the North Dakota State Florists' Association. Jennifer was active in the ND Association of Handicapped Citizens and also on its board of directors. She was also a founding board member of the Second Story of Minot, and served on the Allocation committee of the Minot Area Community Foundation. She was also very active with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center of Minot and the Minot Commission on the Status of Women.

Jennifer heard about the God's Child Project in 2003 and immediately signed up to go on a service trip. During the project she traveled to Guatemala and helped to build a house for a family. She considered this one of the highlights of her life and remained active with the God's Child Project.

The highlight of Jennifer's life was her son, James. She was extremely proud of his accomplishments in the American Institute of Floral Designers and his participation in the family business.

Jennifer was an avid trivia player, she loved doing jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku, and she always looked forward to a weekend (or a week) at Rice Lake. She had a laugh that was infectious and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jennifer is survived by her husband, Phil, son, James and two sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Flowers are always appreciated, and memorials may be made to a fund created in her name with the Minot Area Community Foundation.

At the request of the family, there will be no reviewal or visitation, however friends may sign a memorial register book or leave a card of remembrance on Friday, December 28, 2007 from noon - 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
